About deCleyre Co-op

An activist incubator, resource center, zine library, safe space, housing co-op. Founded in 1998 as a continuation of Douglass House with an intention to have something more permanent. Many of the residents were young adults, teens, and students. Often referred to simply as “deCleyre” it hosted hundreds of traveling activists, student groups, and several conferences.

Governance
Weekly “house meetings” which often included meals. The residents were the “board of directors”.

House Culture
Weekly house meetings and informal, semi-regular communal meals were the backbone of the house. The roots of the house might be said to have been loosely based on social ecology, anarchism, and generally radical politics.
